Students first competed within their grade level, then the top six from each grades of grades 5-8 competed in the all school Spelling Bee.  Former VAISD teacher, Melissa Atchison with the Howe Community Library, moderated the event.

After several rounds, eighth grader Ashlynn Karguth successfully spelled her final word, along with the championship word and was named the winner.  Karguth will represent Van Alstyne and compete on February 2 at the Grayson County Spelling Bee.
