In addition to being surprised with the McDonald’s Scholarship Athlete of the Month in October, a news crew with NBC 5 came to VAHS on Friday, December 9 to present him with a $1,000 scholarship for being the WingStop Scholar Athlete of the Month.

Sawyers has an impressive academic and extracurricular resume, including being valedictorian of his class, on the varsity golf team, and even starting his own non-profit organization. 

Sawyers formed a non-profit organization to assist veterans on their journey to improve their health, physically and mentally.  Sawyers Veterans’ Health has already done great things, including partnering with a NASA Space Shuttle Commander to purchase equipment for the Combat Wounded Veterans Challenge (CWVC) and securing a sponsorship from Academy Sports and Outdoors to provide supplies for Veterans’ Expeditions.
