Successful Curriculum Night at VAES

Another successful Homecoming week at Van Alstyne High School wrapped up last Friday with the crowning of King and Queen, Levi Jones and Alex Roddy.  The Lady Panther volleyball team and Panther football team also pulled off wins on Friday to bring Homecoming week to a happy end.

On Tuesday night, Elementary School parents were invited to the school to attend a Curriculum Night with specific parent sessions they could choose to attend.  Mrs. Elizabeth Smith, Elementary School Principal, said that parents were encouraged to bring their students.  She said that “students {had} rotations between guest readers, games, and Boosterthon activities.”  Boosterthon, a school fundraising organization dedicated to fitness and character building, is the fundraiser that the PTA chose to use again this year.  They were in attendance on Tuesday to provide a preview for the school year and to host activities for the students while parents were in sessions.

Parent sessions were separated by grade level, subjects, technology, and other topics.  Grade level topics covered important information, what to expect, and how to achieve success in each grade.  The subject topics covered Math, Reading, and Writing, and tips to getting students to enjoy their studies.  There were also sessions to learn more about accessing the online system, Parent Portal, ESL, and tours of the new Maker Spaces.

The Van Alstyne Education Foundation has also been hard at work planning and finalizing details for the 4th Annual Sporting Clays Classic being held at Bethel Ranch on October 1.  VAEF supports all VAISD campuses through teacher grants and Senior Scholarships.  If you are interested in participating in the Clay Shoot, contact Dacia McBryde at 903-712-8247.
