Van Alstyne High School senior Brianna Derrick has been named a Texoma Chevy Dealers A+ Athlete of the Week, earning a $1,000 scholarship in recognition of her accomplishments in academics, athletics and leadership.
Brianna ranks third in her class with a 4.84 GPA. She serves as an officer in the National Honor Society and Student Council and is also a member of the National Technical Honor Society. She has earned the highest average in multiple academic subjects.
On the softball field, Brianna has established herself as a leader for the Lady Panthers. She earned First Team All-District honors last season after receiving Honorable Mention All-District recognition during her freshman and sophomore years. She has also been named Academic All-District every year she has played.
Lady Panthers softball coach Philip Spaniel, who nominated Brianna for the scholarship, said she embodies the qualities of a student-athlete through her dedication and determination.
"She sets a goal. She has a standard and she lives up to her standard," he said.
Brianna plans to pursue medical school and credits her experiences in academics and athletics with helping her develop perseverance, responsibility and teamwork.
The Texoma Chevy Dealers A+ Athlete program recognizes outstanding high school seniors for their achievements in academics and athletics.
At the end of the school year, Texoma Chevy Dealers will select one male and one female A+ Athlete scholarship recipient to each receive an additional $1,000 scholarship. As a weekly honoree, Brianna will be among the students eligible for this recognition.
Congratulations to Brianna on this well-deserved honor!
