Officer Steve Nabors Promoted to Interim VAISD Police Chief

Van Alstyne Independent School District announces that Chief Charles Milner has submitted his resignation from the Van Alstyne ISD Police Department, effective September 30, 2026.

During his time with Van Alstyne ISD, Chief Milner has served the district with dedication and professionalism, working to support the safety and security of students, staff, families, and the entire Van Alstyne community. VAISD appreciates his service and wishes him continued success in his future endeavors.

To ensure a smooth transition and continued leadership of the department, Officer Steve Nabors has been named Interim Chief of Police for Van Alstyne ISD.

Nabors brings extensive experience in law enforcement and leadership and will provide continuity and stability for the VAISD Police Department during the transition. His focus will remain on maintaining a safe and secure learning environment while supporting the students, staff, and families of Van Alstyne ISD.

“Safety is one of our highest priorities, and we are committed to ensuring strong leadership and continuity within our Police Department,” said Dr. David L. Brown, Superintendent of Van Alstyne ISD. “We appreciate Chief Milner for his service to Van Alstyne ISD and wish him the very best. We are also pleased to have Steve Nabors step into the role of Interim Chief. His experience and leadership will be valuable as we move forward.”

As Interim Chief, Nabors will work closely with district leadership, police department personnel, campus administrators, and community partners to continue strengthening the department and its commitment to student and staff safety.

All VAISD campuses will remain staffed with a VAISD police officer during this transition
