SMART GLASSES
As technology advances, Van Alstyne ISD remains committed to maintaining a safe, distraction-free environment that safeguards the privacy of students and staff.
To ensure clear privacy standards across all campuses, we have updated our visitor policy regarding smart glasses and wearable recording devices (such as glasses capable of taking photos, recording audio, or filming video).
What you need to know when visiting campus:
- Smart Glasses are strictly prohibited inside all school buildings during instructional hours. This applies to all students, staff and visitors.
- If you arrive on campus wearing smart glasses, the front office will ask you to power off and store your device before entering the building. Visitors who do not power down their device will be asked to remain in the office.
- You are welcome to wear your smart glasses at any public after school event, including athletic games, band/choir concerts and other evening performances
- If you require specialized wearable technology for documented medical or vision accessibility reasons, please notify campus administration before your visit.
PERSONAL MOTORIZED DEVICES
As we work to ensure a safe environment for all students, staff and visitors, we are sharing an important update regarding electric bicycles (e-bikes), electric scooters, hoverboards, OneWheels, and any other personal motorized transportation devices on campus.
While students are welcome to ride these devices to and from school, we must maintain strict safety protocols once they arrive on school grounds. With high foot traffic and heavy vehicle drop-off/pick-up lines, motorized devices pose a significant safety risk when ridden on campus property.
Key Rules:
- Students must dismount and walk their e-bikes, scooters, hoverboards or skateboards once they cross onto school property. This includes campus sidewalks, parking lots, crosswalks and entryways.
- All devices must be stored at the designated campus bike racks during the day. Students are responsible for bringing their own locks to secure their items. VAISD is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged personal property.
- This policy does NOT apply to motorized wheelchairs or documented assistive mobility devices used by individuals with disabilities.
Enforcement and confiscation procedure:
We have established a clear enforcement process to ensure fairness and consistency:
- A first violation will result in an official warning and a review of this policy
- Subsequent violations will result in confiscation of the device. A parent or guardian will be required to pick up the device in person from the front office during standard operating hours. Students may also face further disciplinary action per the Student Code of Conduct
