The terrible tragedy that occurred in Uvalde yesterday has led us all to reflect on how vulnerable our children and our schools are in today’s society. I can assure you the safety of our children is a continuous conversation we have had between myself, the Board of Trustees, and the City of Van Alstyne Police Department. This ongoing conversation has led to the addition of a School Resource Officer as well as the Guardian Program at our schools in recent years. We have been discussing the need for additional officers at recent board meetings. This tragedy has increased our urgency to continue to add to the safety of our schools. Therefore, I wanted you all to know that we are posting and looking for an additional SRO for the upcoming school year. Van Alstyne ISD is committed to providing a safe well-rounded education for all of our students. We hope you have a safe and relaxing summer with your family. We look forward to seeing you in the fall.
