Parent Update 3/14/20

Dear Panther Nation,

Throughout the week, we will continue to have frequent contact with our local health care officials to make appropriate decisions for the welfare of our students and the community. We want to reiterate that the district will continue to monitor and evaluate the situation prior to reopening school on Monday, March 23, and will communicate across all channels as updated information becomes available.

By postponing classes an additional week, Van Alstyne ISD is encouraging our community to practice social distancing in an attempt to limit the spread of the coronavirus. Please attempt to limit your social interactions to help keep the Van Alstyne Community safe.

The Texas Department of Human Services recommends that you start practicing social distancing. Social distancing involves staying away from other people to avoid catching or spreading illness. It’s a fancy term for avoiding crowds and minimizing physical contact. This could mean avoiding concerts or weddings, skipping the handshake, and/or staying at least six feet away from others.” Given all that we know, and what we can anticipate based on information from local, state and national agencies, we believe this is the most prudent course of action at this time.

We highly encourage you to set aside time each day to have your child engage in educational time. The Van Alstyne Administration team will be meeting on Monday, March 16th to work on providing some resources for your student in order to limit the disruption in learning.

**** We will be serving breakfast Monday – Friday from 6:30 – 8:30 am at Sanford elementary. Drive-thru will be located in the teacher parking lot located on the East side of the building!

Please stay safe and take care of each other!

Dr. David Brown,
Van Alstyne ISD Superintendent
