Dear Students, Parents, and Patrons,
It is an exciting time to be in Van Alstyne ISD. So many great things are happening, indicating we are well on our way to becoming a premier district. Recent data released by the Texas Education Agency confirmed what we already knew, we have a great staff offering outstanding services.
The campuses and the District received a “met standard” rating from the state, which for 2015 is the highest rating awarded. Under the federal rating system the District as well as each campus passed AYP (adequate yearly progress). The District’s graduation rate, SAT scores, and ACT scores are significantly above the state average.
Financially, the District has managed very well. After significant reductions over the last several years due to state cuts, the District was able to increase the overall budget by over 8%, without raising taxes or using fund balance. The vast majority of the increase was spent on personnel.
The focus points for the District this year include improving the use technology, offering more effective tutoring services for our struggling students, and improved communication between the teachers and parents.
Realizing vast improvements in all areas the last couple of years, the staff is not satisfied with where we are. We will continue to strive for improvements in the classroom, on the athletic field, in fine arts, and financially. The VA ISD staff appreciates the trust you put in us to educate your children and be involved in the development of their future. With the combined efforts of staff, students, parents and community, this will be the premier district in the great State of Texas.
John Spies, Ed. D.
