Update
Update:
At 8:52 AM, law enforcement received a tip that a subject posted a video to Facebook Live in which he brandished firearms and indicated his intent to "shoot up an elementary school". The threat was not directed toward Van Alstyne ISD. At Van Alstyne ISD, the safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. As a precaution, our entire district went into SECURE mode. SECURE means campuses are following normal schedules, but visitors will not be allowed to enter the building. A short time later, we were advised that the subject had been located and taken into custody. The "SECURE Mode" was lifted at that time. The subject was identified and had a last known address in Ector, Texas, but also had residential history in the Celina/Prosper area.
Update: Law enforcement has informed VAISD that there is no longer a threat in our area and the secure lockout has been lifted.
Law enforcement has identified a potential threat in the general area; not at the district itself. As a measure of precaution, all buildings will be closed to visitors until further notice. There is no immediate threat to any of our students or buildings at this time. September 1, 2022
