Homecoming Week and Events

Monday kicked off with an “Athlete versus Mathlete” theme, Tuesday was College Day, Wednesday was “Way out Wednesday,” Thursday was “Tacky Tourist Day,” and Friday is “Claws Out Friday, Spirit Day.”  The homecoming masquerade dance is being held on Saturday at the High School.  Students voted on their homecoming court last week during lunches.  Finalists for homecoming king include Mason Adams, DeAngelo Alexander, Koi Beck, Michael Hensley, and Levi Jones.  Homecoming queen finalists are Chloe Houston, Sadie Ingram, Shelby Litzkow, Alex Roddy, and Peyton Welch.  The homecoming king and queen will be crowned at tonight’s game.

College Day at Van Alstyne High School not only included students supporting their favorite college teams, the annual college fair was held Tuesday morning in the High School gym.  Nearly 60 colleges and universities from both in-state and out-of-state were present at the college fair.  This is a great time for students to learn more about different universities and gather information about schools that interest them.  Students were able to register for the college fair and create a personalized barcode that colleges could scan.  This technology allows the students to easily get more information from the schools they are potentially interested in.  Juniors are allowed one day and Seniors are allowed two college days to visit schools and Seniors are encouraged to apply early to meet priority admissions and scholarship deadlines.

It isn’t just the older students who stay busy!  Last Friday, the 4th graders at Van Alstyne Elementary School hosted their grandparents at their annual Grandparents Day.  Grandparents were encouraged to attend the program and walk through their student’s classroom, meet their teacher, and see more about life at VAES.
